Home Front Festival

August 19th, 2013 by The Band

Remembering the “home front” with period music from the 1940’s, the Elite Jazz Band was a featured band at the annual Home Front Festival by the Bay.  The crowd gathered around the stage to hear some of the great tunes sung during World War II. The festival not only honors those who fought bravely abroad, but also gives special recognition to those who helped win the war at home. The festival is held on the very site where Liberty ships were built, and is the home of the unique and interesting Rosie the Riveter museum. The museum gives outstanding insight into the lives and sacrifices that women experienced during the war years.

Saint Mary’s Sesquicentennial

October 6th, 2012 by The Band

The Elite Jazz Band was honored to be a feature band at the 150th year celebration of Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Ca. The event was well attended on the pastoral setting of the campus. The band kicked off the event with a set of popular American music from the 20’s 30’s and 40’s which put the crowd in a happy mood for this significant event. A bi-plane flew over as the band performed some patriotic tunes from the era. It was a memorable performance on great day at a great college.

Perfect Fit at Monterey Hot Jazz Society

March 12th, 2012 by The Band

The Monterey Hot Jazz Society’s passion for music from the twenties through the forties along with their strong desire to recreate the dance steps from those eras was a perfect fit to the Elite Jazz Band selection of tunes performed at their monthly gathering on March 11th. In fact, it wasn’t clear who was having a better time; the band or the dancers! From Swing, to Waltz and then to Cake Walking, the fun was non-stop!

Based on comments from the dancers, it is very clear the Elite Jazz Band will be returning for another featured guest band appearance next year. After all, who better appreciates and “feels” the music more than people who dance to it?
