Bio

The Band

The Elite Jazz Band features top musicians from Northern California. Their repertoire consists of New Orleans Style Jazz, Dixieland, Blues, Country, and Swing. Audiences delight in their upbeat, toe tapping, music that is truly American in origin, and is recognizable to all ages.

Jack Convery (Banjo)

Jack Convery is the leader and is a master of all the well known favorites that everyone loves in the eclectic collection of standard American tunes. He is the winner of the “Best Banjoist of Northern California”. Jack has worked with Ella Fitzgerald, Willie Nelson, Perry Como, and Bing Crosby. Jack was the Band Director for the San Francisco 49er football team.

Gary Neuman (Piano)

Gary is considered by many to be one of the best ragtime and jazz pianist in Northern California. He has performed professionally in Northern California for over 30 years.

John Stafford (Reeds)

The late Herb Caen, one of the best known journalists in San Francisco, named John “The Benny Goodman of San Francisco”. John performed over 20 years in the Compas Rose Room at the St. Francis Hotel, one of the premier jazz rooms in San Francisco.

Bob Scott (Drums)

Bob has toured and recorded with Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Dan Hicks, and many more legends of music. He is the first call drummer for many bands in Northern California.

Bob Sakoi (Trumpet)

Bob started his musical career playing in Dixieland band at the Great America theme park, and later worked his way through college playing Latin music in clubs and on the radio. In 1977 he moved to Las Vegas  and performed with headliners including Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis , Jr. After his retirement, he became involved in the Northern California  Traditional Jazz scene working with many local groups.

Steve Hanson (Bass)

Steve has performed with many great jazz artists on both the East and West Coasts.

Kit Nelson (Vocals)

Kit’s jazz vocalist experiences are rich and full of variety. Kit has performed throughout Northern California at many jazz events.
